The Kozai Group's global competency model was featured in the April 21, 2004 issue of Newsweek Japan. In a special issue on the challenges of working with people from other cultures, Newsweek relied heavily on the Kozai Group's approach to understanding global competencies as a way to work more effectively in work settings where cross-cultural differences exist. Nori Furuya, Kozai's Senior Representative in Japan, developed mini-cases based upon the Global Competency Inventory (GCI) for the staff of Newsweek, and these were published as illustrative of issues that must be sorted through in order to work effectively in a cross-cultural context. Some of the mini-cases (labelled A and B) in the magazine can be seen below.
